Walking in North Wales - Moel Famau

Moel Famau is a popular walking destination in North Wales, known for its stunning views and relatively easy access. Here's a suggested walk:

1.     Starting Point: Begin at the car park at the foot of Moel Famau. There are several car parks available, but the most common starting point is the one near the Bwlch Penbarras car park.

2.     Follow the Trail: From the car park, follow the well-marked trail up the hill. The path is well-maintained and relatively easy to follow. As you ascend, you'll be treated to panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

3.     Summit: After about 45 minutes to an hour of walking, depending on your pace, you'll reach the summit of Moel Famau. At 554 meters (1818 feet) above sea level, you'll have spectacular views stretching across the Vale of Clwyd and beyond. On clear days, you can even see as far as Snowdonia and the coast.

4.     Explore the Summit: Take some time to explore the summit area, which is home to the ruins of the Jubilee Tower. Built in 1810 to commemorate the golden jubilee of King George III, the tower offers a great vantage point for taking in the views.

5.     Return: After enjoying the summit, you can either retrace your steps back to the car park or continue on one of the circular routes that take you around Moel Famau and through the surrounding countryside. There are several options for longer walks if you want to extend your hike.

6.     Refreshments: Once you're back at the car park, you might want to reward yourself with a well-deserved break. There are often refreshment vans or cafes nearby where you can grab a snack or a hot drink.

The Offa's Dyke Path runs close to Moel Famau and it is also one of the Welsh Marilyns.

Following our walk we visited Llanbenwch Caravan park for a lovely coffee and stunning views of the Clywedian Hills.
